Vietnamese players Lý Hoàng Nam and Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên were issued wild cards to compete in the main round of the Vietnam Open tennis tournament, which begins on October 10 in HCM City.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese players Lý Hoàng Nam and Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên were issued wild cards to compete in the main round of the Vietnam Open tennis tournament, which begins on October 10 in HCM City.

Nam is the world No 701 and Thiên is ranked No 1,974. Their rivals are ranked in the world’s top 300.

Among them are No 55 Jazizi Malek of Tunisia, No 70 Sela Dudi of Israel, No 88 Daniel Taro from Japan and No 115 Stakhovsky Sergiy of Ukraine, who defeated former No 1 Roger Federer in the second round of the Wimbledon in 2013.

The qualification begins today (October 8) at the Lan Anh Tennis Court.

The Vietnam Open is held as part of the ATP’s Challenger series, offering a total bonus of US$50,000. The winners will earn 90 points and $7.200. — VNS
