Cường wins men’s singles title at national badminton event

Phạm Cao Cường of HCM City beat his teammate Nguyễn Tiến Minh to win the men’s singles category of the National Individual Badminton Tournament which wrapped up at the weekend in the northern province of Thái Bình.

HÀ NỘI — Phạm Cao Cường of HCM City beat his teammate Nguyễn Tiến Minh to win the men’s singles category of the National Individual Badminton Tournament which wrapped up at the weekend in the northern province of Thái Bình.

Cường beat Olympian Minh, who has won 13 titles in this category, 12-21, 21-13, 21-12.

In the women’s doubles, Vũ Thị Trang and Nguyễn Thị Sen of Bắc Giang defeated Đà Nẵng’s Nguyễn Thùy Linh and Nguyễn Thị Phương Hà 18-21, 21-19, 21-10 to win gold.

After five days of competition, Hà Nội’s team took the lead with two golds, two silvers and one bronze. Bắc Giang finished second with two golds and one bronze. With one gold, one silver and two bronzes, HCM City came third.

More than 100 athletes from 19 teams across the country took part in the tournament. — VNS
