HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc yesterday congratulated lifter Lê Văn Công for his outstanding achievement at Paralympics in Brazil.
PM Phúc wrote: “I am very pleased to receive the news from Rio where Công displayed an excellent performance, winning a gold medal and breaking both the world and the Paralympics records at the same time."
“He is the first Vietnamese athlete with a disability to have the honour to stand on the top podium of the Paralympics. His result has not only brought glory to the country, but also shows the determination, strong will and thirst for victory of the athlete, in particular, and Vietnamese youth, in general,” he added.
The prime minister also asked the Sports Administration, concerned bodies and the media to propagate Công’s success story to encourage countrymen, especially people with disabilities, to take part in sport activities, integrate with the community and contribute to the development of sport and the society.
He hoped that the all other Vietnamese athletes in Rio will reach their peak and win more medals in the coming days. — VNS
