HÀ NỘI — Lê Đức Phát will compete at the Victor Swedish Open 2024 from January 18-21 in Uppsala, Sweden.

The badminton tournament is an opportunity for Phát to collect more points for his world ranking in the hope of securing a place at the Paris Olympics this summer.

“This is my first international event of 2024. I have prepared my fitness and technique for positive results," said Phát.

"In 2023, injuries prevented me from competing well. This year, I will come back stronger. I will play my best, targeting an Olympic place."

Phát is currently No 84 on the list of players vying for the Paris Games. According to the Badminton World Federation, the top 50 will qualify for the event.

The tournament has a total prize pool of US$10,000 and is categorized as an International Series event.

National top female player Nguyễn Thùy Linh will take part in the Yonex Sunrise India Open from January 16-24 in New Delhi and the Daihatsu Indonesia Masters from January 23-28 in Jakarta.

Linh is the world No 21 and No 19 in the Olympics ranking. She needs to maintain her place to advance to the Olympics Games for the second time.

Linh took part in the Tokyo Games in 2021 but did not qualify for knock-out round. VNS
