QUẢNG TRỊ — Three Lao citizens were arrested on Thursday on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine pills that were to be sold in Việt Nam.
They were arrested in Savannakhet’s Sepon District, about one kilometre from the Lao Bảo international border gate in Quảng Trị Province.
Border guards from Việt Nam’s central province of Quảng Trị and police from Laos’ central Savannakhet Province uncovered the case.
Authorities seized 100,000 methamphetamine pills, one car, three mobile phones, three passports and relevant documents and other items.
The three men said they had bought the drugs in Laos and then transported them by car during the evening to avoid inspection by authorities.
They collected the drugs in an area opposite the Lao Bao international border gate where they sought ways to bring them into Việt Nam for sale.
The investigation is continuing. — VNS
