BÌNH DƯƠNG — A fire destroyed a sticky-tape making factory covering nearly 2,000 square metres in Việt Hương Industrial Zone in Thuận An Town in the southern province of Bình Dương on Wednesday.

Hundreds of workers at Chung An Ltd Company, which owns the factory, called for help at around 1:30 pm when they heard an explosion and noticed the fire.

Colonel Nguyễn Văn Nhựt, vice director of the Bình Dương Province Police, said that about 200 firefighters and 40 firefighting engines were mobilised to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters in the neighbouring province of Bình Dương and HCM City were also asked for help. The fire was under control by 7 pm.

The fire at the factory, which is near National Highway 13, a key road connecting HCM City to Central Highlands provinces, caused a huge traffic jam. Bình Dương authorities sent staff to direct traffic flow.

A proper water supply system for firefighting as well as firefighting facilities in the area helped the company staff control the fire, Nhựt said.

The fire caused asset losses worth tens of billions of Vietnamese đồng. — VNS
