HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội’s Transport Department said it would conduct maintenance work on Thanh Trì Bridge, where subsidence and cracks have been reported recently.
Repairs on the bridge will be completed by the end of the first quarter of this year.
The department plans to install an anti-glare system on the dividing line to ensure traffic safety.
The installation was expected to be completed in the second quarter of this year, it said.
The department will also install warning signs for motorbikes to reduce speed and ban trucks and passenger cars while work is ongoing.
The department has asked the Police Department’s Traffic Police Unit and inspectors from Hoàng Mai and Gia Lâm districts to closely co-ordinate and set up a hotline to handle traffic violations.
Thanh Trì Bridge stretches 3.1km with total investment of more than VNĐ1.39 trillion (US$59.7 million).
Construction of the bridge started in November 2002 and was completed in February 2007.
The bridge has partly eased congestion, but has become downgraded with subsidence and potholes after undergoing several repair works. — VNS
