CÀ MAU — The Năm Căn-Đất Mũi road section on the Hồ Chí Minh National Expressway is expected to be finished by June 2018, a project management board representative said on Sunday.
The 7.4km road in the southern province of Cà Mau is the last section of the expressway, which was financed with VNĐ3.9 trillion (US$172 million) in government bonds.
Most road sections were expected to be completed in June, but several projects, including the Rạch Bầu Nhỏ and Xóm Mũi bridges, were finished ahead of schedule.
However, the Rạch Tàu and Rạch Vàm bridges in Ngọc Hiển District’s Đất Mũi Commune are behind schedule due to late bidding.
The Năm Căn-Đất Mũi road section, which stretches from the Ông Tình Bridge in Năm Căn District to the Đất Mũi tourist spot in Đất Mũi Commune, Ngọc Hiển District, has a total length of 58km, of which 51.3km was completed in January 2016. Work on the last 7.4km section started in late 2016.
Completion of the Năm Căn-Đất Mũi road section is considered very important because it is expected to remove Ngọc Hiển District from isolation.
The district is currently the last part of the country without a car-accessible road leading to its centre. — VNS
