HÀ NỘI — The train route connecting Hà Nội and Lào Cai provinces has come to a standstill after a landslide buried at least six carriages of a cargo train on Monday evening in northern mountainous province of Yên Bái’s Lâm Giang Commune.

The landslide was believed to have been triggered by heavy rains over the past several days.

The incident occurred when the train was waiting for goods to be loaded at Lâm Giang Train Station.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Damage to property was being estimated, chairman of the People’s Committee of the commune Vũ Mạnh Hải said.

The local administration has mobilised all resources to deal with the situation. As planned, it will take four days to fix the situation.

Following the incident, the railways suspended all trains passing through the station.

All passengers have to disembark at the two previous train stations of Bảo Hà and Mậu A and then travel by bus to follow their schedule. — VNS
