HÀ NỘI — The capital city’s People’s Committee has launched a campaign to support Earth Hour this year which will be held at 20:30 - 21:30 on March 25.

The Earth Hour Campaign 2017, raising public awareness of climate change adaptation and energy saving, and themed “Lights off to turn on the future”, will encourage local residents to turn off unnecessary electrical devices for an hour.

A switching-off ceremony is scheduled to take place at August Revolutionary Square, according to the committee.

The city will also work with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organise activities such as cycling, running and other competitions based around environmental protection and energy saving.

Organisations and individuals from all areas including schools, businesses and residential households are encouraged to take part in the campaign.

The committee said Hà Nội will mobilise volunteers to hand out posters and leaflets about the event at shopping malls, markets, government offices, schools and hospitals.

An Earth Hour campaign was first held in Việt Nam in 2009. Since then, more than 1,000 businesses and organisations across the country have joined the effort.
