HCM CITY — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc on a visit to the Sài Gòn New Port in HCM City on Monday asked the port to continue to improve its economic and defence mission.
The port, one of the strongest economic units of the Việt Nam People’s Navy, is among the 25 largest and most modern ports in the world.
Praising the achievements the company has made over the years, the PM said the port should become one of the country’s leading defence economic agencies.
Phúc urged the corporation to expand production and focus on strategic positions while continuing to reorganise its affiliates.
The PM also urged the company to improve competitiveness and labour productivity, and ensure stable incomes for workers.
The State-owned Sài Gòn New Port Corporation operates under the one member limited liability company model and focuses on ports, logistics and sea transport.
The company has capital of more than VNĐ30 trillion (US$1.35 billion). It has grown 21 per cent per year on average.
This year, the company expects to earn VNĐ17.263 trillion ($775 million) in revenue and VNĐ1.952 triillion ($88 million) in profit.
The company owns 17 ports that can accommodate up to a total of 200,000 DWT. Its container port services account for 50 per cent of market share in the country and 89 per cent in HCM City.
Sài Gòn New Port is ranked among the top 20 logistics companies in Việt Nam, with its sea transport services making up 25 per cent of market share. — VNS
