HÀ NỘI – Police in southern Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province said they have decided to investigate a case in which a 76-year-old man is accused of committing sexual offences against seven children.

The alleged offences took place at the Lakeside residential area in Nguyễn An Ninh Ward, Vũng Tàu City, according to the provincial investigative police who made the decision today. 

A Lakeside resident accused the man, a resident in Vũng Tàu City, of sexually abusing her six-year-old daughter, zing.vn reported.

The resident said the 76-year-old had brought the child to a staircase in the residential area to commit the offence, which damaged the victim’s physical and mental health.

The accuser said the child was spending summer vacation home alone whilst her parents were away for work, Tuổi trẻ (Youth) reported.

Senior Lieutenant Nguyễn Đức Trịnh, deputy head of Vũng Tàu City Police said police investigated the case and found that the first victim was one of seven children allegedly abused by the man.

“Police contacted the victims’ family and six children have come forward to name the offender,” Trịnh said.

“One girl said he held her tight so that she couldn’t escape. Another said she saw her embracing another child.

 “Police carefully examined the scenes to see whether the statements match. The police have decided to investigate the case, legal proceedings against the offender will require further investigation,” Trịnh said.

The Vũng Tàu City’s Standing Party Committee has required the local Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs to work with other sectors to provide adequate protection for the victims. — VNS
