HCM CITY —  A HCM City local has died due to a collapsed tree branch caused by yesterday's heavy rain and wind.

The city's Chợ Rẫy Hospital said that in the afternoon of September 4, its Emergency Department received a female patient (52) in a state of coma, apnea, sporadic heartbeat, nose and mouth bleeding, and dilated pupils.

Doctors performed chest compressions, apply intubation, vasopressors and other medical procedures, but the victim died after about 20 minutes.

The accident occurred in District 5's Huỳnh Mẫn Đạt - An Dương Vương intersection. Strong rain and wind caused a large tree branch to fall on the victim, who was travelling on motorbike. She was quickly brought to the hospital.

Yesterday afternoon (around 3pm to 3:40pm), many large trees around HCM City fell or had their branches broken off, causing traffic disturbance, a power outage at one area, and posing danger to locals.

Local authorities quickly dispatched workers to clear the scenes.

Within the past few days, HCM City and Bình Dương have been having frequent heavy rain, causing flooding problems.

According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, the cause of heavy rain and wind in HCM City is due to the tropical convergence zone with an axis through the Central region connecting with Storm No. 3.

In upcoming days, HCM City and other southern localities are expected to see frequent rain at around noon, and in the afternoon and evening, with some areas forecasted to have heavy rain that may cause flooding.
