HẢI DƯƠNG — A serious traffic accident occurred involving three vehicles, including a minibus, on the Hà Nội – Hải Phòng Expressway, resulted in the deaths of two drivers and injuries to 14 others on Thursday morning.

Among the injured is one driver in critical condition, who has been rushed to hospital, while the remaining injured are mainly passengers aboard the minibus.

Initial reports indicate that the multi-vehicle collision occurred at 9 am on Thursday on the expressway, running through Gia Lộc District, in the northern province of Hải Dương.

The district’s police said that it had dispatched officers to the site of the incident, coordinating with the traffic department under the Ministry of Public Security and the Expressway Management Board to manage the traffic, conduct rescue operations and investigate the cause of the fatal crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused when a white pickup truck and a minibus collided lightly, abruptly stopping in the middle of the expressway's highest-speed lane heading from Hà Nội City to Hải Phòng City.

The abrupt halt caused the driver of the seven-seater vehicle following behind, to directly rear-end the stationary vehicle in front.

The seven-seater sustained frontal damage, deploying airbags and coming to rest sideways across the two expressway lanes.

The investigative authorities are continuing to examine the scene to establish the exact cause of the accident. — VNS
