Three people injured after lorry plunged into ravine

LÀO CAI — Three people have been injured, one seriously, after a lorry carrying fresh fruits plunged more than 150 feet into a ravine early Tuesday morning in the northern mountainous province of Lào Cai.

The accident happened around 2.30am as the lorry was heading to Sa Pa Town.

The three injured are Lường Văn Hạng, 34, Lò Văn Thanh, 28; and Đường Văn Thịnh, 22.

They all live in Quỳnh Nhai District in the northern mountainous province of Sơn La. After the accident, the lorry sustained severe damage.

Colonel Phạm Gia Chiến, chief of the Traffic Police Office under the Lào Cai Province’s Police Department, said the lorry overturned and fell into a ravine approximately 50 metre deep after hitting a concrete bridge in Tòng Sành 1 Hamlet, Bát Xát District.

After receiving the report of the accident, the department sent police to divert traffic and coordinate with the rescue forces to provide initial first aid and transport the victims to Lào Cai Province’s General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.— VNS
