Over $1b to be invested into 130km section of North-South Expressway

ĐẮK NÔNG – Minister of Transport Nguyễn Văn Thắng has just signed a pre-feasibility study report on the investment project of building the Gia Nghĩa-Chơn Thành section of the North-South Expressway.

The section passing through Đắk Nông and Bình Phước provinces has a total investment more than VNĐ25.5 trillion (US$1.07 billion).

Accordingly, the project has its starting point intersecting with Highway 14 in Đắk R’Lấp District, Đắk Nông Province and the end point connects to Hồ the Hồ Chí Minh Expressway in Chơn Thành Township of Bình Phước Province.

The project has a total length of about 128.8km, of which the section through Đắk Nông Province is about 27.8km, the section through Bình Phước Province is about 99km, and the section connecting with the Hồ Chí Minh Expressway is 2km.

The Government recommended phased investment in the project, in phase 1 the expressway will have four lanes with designed speed of 100-120km per hour depending on terrain conditions and a roadbed width of 24.75m, while the section through Đồng Xoài city of Bình Phước Province will have a roadbed of 25.5m wide.

However, site clearance will be done according to the approved planning for a six-lane expressway with a roadbed width of 32.25m.

According to preliminary calculations, the scale of the expressway in phase 1 can meet transport needs until about 2045-2050.

The Government also proposed that the project be invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP).

Among the total investment of VNĐ25.5 trillion, the Central State Budget spends VNĐ10.53 trillion, while about VNĐ2.2 trillion is from local budget and VNĐ12.77 trillion is arranged by investors.

The works of compensation, support and resettlement will be carried out in 2024 and 2025, and construction will begin in 2025, aiming for completion in 2026. - VNS
