HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội saw another record rise in new coronavirus cases on Tuesday with 1,704 infections detected, with the country's COVID-related fatalities topping 30,000 since the start of the pandemic.
Việt Nam confirmed 16,325 COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, including nine imported and 16,316 domestic cases across 62 provinces and cities.
Of the new locally transmitted cases, 11,309 were detected in the community, outside quarantined or locked down areas.
The nation has documented 1,571,780 coronavirus infections so far.
The capital city of Hà Nội posted the highest number of transmissions at 1,704, the sixth time it has hit at least 1,000 cases in eight days, followed by Cà Mau with 1,590, Tây Ninh at 967 and HCM City at 813.

In the last seven days, the country has confirmed an average of 15,609 new transmissions daily.
On Tuesday the country saw 250 deaths from the disease, including 58 in HCM City, 31 in Tây Ninh, 20 in Đồng Nai, 15 in Tiền Giang and 14 in Bình Dương. As a result, the COVID-related death toll hit 30,041, accounting for 1.9 per cent of total infections.
A further 50,191 patients were given the all-clear across the country, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,160,090.
There are currently 7,740 patients nationwide in serious condition with the virus, including 874 requiring invasive ventilation and 19 on life support.
As of December 20, a total of 140,438,803 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered, with nearly 63 million people now fully inoculated, while more than 1.36 million people have received a third shot. — VNS
