HÀ NỘI Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc attended a gathering in Hà Nội yesterday to mark the 70th founding anniversary of a Vietnamese military school for teenagers.

Trường Thiếu sinh quân (Military school for teenagers), was founded in 1949 by General Võ Nguyên Giáp as directed by President Hồ Chí Minh.

The school operated under the auspices of the Department of Military Training, a unit of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, until its closure in 2011.

Many other military schools were founded across the country following its establishment, helping train teenagers and young adults in different fields and getting them ready to serve the revolution against foreign invaders.

Speaking to some 500 former students of the school at the event, PM Phúc hailed generations of young Vietnamese army officers for their contributions to the struggle against French and American invaders and national reunification.

He said the Party and State always paid attention to young army officers and hoped they would follow the example of President Hồ Chí Minh, making further contributions to national development. VNS
