PM Phúc extends sympathy to China over natural disasters

HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has sent his sympathies to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang over the human and property losses in China caused by recent natural disasters.

In a message sent on Wednesday, the Vietnamese PM expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Chinese government, people in the affected areas will soon overcome the consequences of the disasters.

China’s southern localities were hit by downpours and floods while an earthquake struck the southwestern province of Sichuan on Monday.

Dozens have been killed and 356,000 people had to flee their homes as heavy rain and floods have swept through large parts of southern China, from Guangdong Province in the southeast to southwest China’s Chongqing on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Meanwhile, the quakes in Sichuan’s Yibin city have left 13 people dead, 199 others injured and more than 140,000 residents affected. — VNS
