HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc called on the Cambodian National Assembly to issue regulations to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to operate in its country.
At a reception for President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin in Hà Nội on Wednesday, the Vietnamese leader urged the Cambodian legislature to support the co-operation between the two countries with the goal to raise bilateral trade to more than US$5 billion by 2020.
He said Việt Nam always prioritises developing co-operation with Cambodia and wishes to aid the country's national development.
He said he wants the countries to continue sharing information to maintain security and mutual stability.
The PM suggested Heng Samrin and relevant Cambodian agencies pay more attention to building and upgrading friendship monuments, and to searching for and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia.
He thanked the Cambodian government for helping create a stable life for overseas Vietnamese in the country and asked Cambodia to assist them with their legal documents. He also suggested they handle the replacement of those who lived in Tonle Sap and expressed his hope the issue would be dealt with soundly.
Regarding border issues, PM Phúc said land border demarcation and marker planting is 84 per cent complete. The two nations should complete drafts for how these issues should be handled and organise a signing ceremony this year. They should also continue seeking solutions for border sections not yet delineated, he said.
Việt Nam is ready to support Cambodia and promote solidarity in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which both countries are members, contributing to peace and prosperity in the region.
Heng Samrin told his host the Vietnamese and Cambodian legislatures always lend each other support and co-ordinate bilaterally and at international forums.
Cambodia has paid attention to issues regarding Vietnamese Cambodians to ensure they are treated as fairly as other foreign residents in the country, he said.
Hosting a reception for the Cambodian guest, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Trần Thanh Mẫn said the relations have been cemented in recent years through the regular visits by leaders of the two countries in the spirit of friendship and trust.
The Cambodian official and the Vietnam Fatherland Front should table proposals for local administrations to facilitate the lives and work of people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia, he said. — VNS
