HÀ NỘI — The National Assembly of Việt Nam always supports the country in developing relations with Russia and will complete laws to take the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to the next level, said Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân.

“Việt Nam always treasures its ties with Russia, regarding it as a top priority in its foreign policy,” she said.

She expressed her delight to see Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who has made important contributions to fostering ties between the two countries.

She said Việt Nam values Russia’s role and contributions to maintaining global peace, stability and development.

The NA leader was happy with the outcomes of the talks between the two PMs, saying together with the visit to Russia by Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng in September, the visit by PM Medvedev will generate a new impetus for relations between the two countries.

The leaders agreed that bilateral trade remains modest compared with the countries’ potential and advantages.

Ngân expressed her hope the two governments will work together to overcome hurdles for trade and investment activities.

Meanwhile, Medvedev said the two countries have favourable conditions to accelerate their investment and trade as Việt Nam was one of the first countries to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union and wanted the sides to carry out joint projects in energy, agriculture and high-tech industry.

At the meeting, Ngân said the NA of Việt Nam has always maintained its close co-operation with law-making bodies in Russia and at multilateral parliamentary forums.

Medvedev spoke highly of the role of the parliaments in creating legal foundations for boosting the two countries’ ties and expressed his hope they will continue their sound relations, providing a basis for the bilateral ties to grow. — VNS
