ASTANA — Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Việt Nam Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân arrived in Astana on Monday afternoon, beginning her three-day official visit to Kazakhstan.
She was welcomed at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport by Vietnamese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Đoàn Thị Xuân Hiền, Vice Chairman of the Mazhilis (lower house) of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Bojko Vladimir Karpovich and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Kazkhastan.
This is the first-ever visit to Kazakhstan by a Vietnamese National Assembly leader.
The visit is being made at the invitation of Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Kassym Zhomart Tokayev and Chairman of the Mazhilis, Nurlan Nigmatulin.
The Vietnamese and Kazakh legislative bodies have maintained collaboration over the years, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
The visit to Kazakhstan by Chairwoman Ngân is expected to foster ties in economy, trade, investment, energy and culture-education.
The Vietnamese top legislator earlier attended the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-137) in Saint Petersburg, Russia. — VNS
