HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese police yesterday detained blogger HonHai for distributing anti-state information, an official has confirmed.

Hồ Văn Hải, 52, was arrested in Hồ Chí Minh City last night at his home in Thủ Đức District. He was accused of "spreading information and documents on the internet that are against the government of the Social Republic of Viet Nam," according to a statement by the Hồ Chí Minh City police.

Colonel Nguyễn Sỹ Quan, spokesperson of the city police, said in the past, Hải had distributed anti-state documents and allegedly violated Article 88 of the Criminal Code. He also said the department would investigate and handle Hai’s violations in accordance with the law. Hải’s Facebook page and blog were inaccessible as of last night. —VNS
