ĐÀ NẴNG – Việt Nam and Cambodia on September 26 agreed to enhance close coordination to improve the efficacy of the search for, gathering and repatriation of the remains of the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during wartime.
The agreement was reached at the 23rd meeting of the specialised committees of the two Governments in the central city of Đà Nẵng.
For the 2024-2025 dry season, the two sides reached consensus on promoting coordination and direction of the work until there is no further information about the burial sites of the remains. Eleven Vietnamese repatriation teams will maintain their missions in Cambodian cities and provinces.
The standing committees of the two sides will continue proposing measures to push ahead the work, while examining and evaluating the coordination between the local specialised agencies and the search and repatriation forces.
Additionally, they concurred to work closely with each other and direct competent organisations to build and renovate the Việt Nam – Cambodia friendship monuments in Cambodia, contributing to deepening the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and sustainable and comprehensive cooperation between the two Governments, militaries and peoples.
Remains of 834 martyrs were collected and repatriated during the 2023-2024 dry season. VNS
