HÀ NỘI -- The official visit to Russia by National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn aims to concretise the Joint Statement on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership, on the back of the 30-year achievements of the Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations between Việt Nam and Russia, NA Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office Bùi Văn Cường told the press.
This visit from September 8-10, the first by Mẫn in his capacity as the NA Chairman and the first by a key Vietnamese leader this year, follows Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Việt Nam in June, Cường said, adding that it also aims to realise cooperation agreements reached in the phone talks between Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm and President Putin on August 8, contributing to promoting and strengthening the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership in general and the close ties between the Vietnamese NA, and the State Duma and the Federation Council of Federal Assembly of Russia in particular.
Highlighting the visit’s significance, Cường said a key event during the visit will be the third session of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee between the Vietnamese NA and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia, co-chaired by Mẫn. This session represents the highest level of parliamentary cooperation, the first of its kind between the Vietnamese NA and a foreign legislative body.
Mẫn is scheduled to hold talks with the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia and sign a new cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese NA and the Federation Council. He will also witness the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese NA Office and the State Duma Office of Russia.
His agenda includes meetings with high-ranking Russian state leaders and representatives from major political parties. He will also meet with local leaders from regions in Russia that have cooperation ties with Việt Nam, representatives from the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, and veterans who fought in Việt Nam.
Additionally, the top legislator will meet with representatives from major Russian companies collaborating with Việt Nam and notable Vietnamese businesses operating in Russia, Cường added. -- VNS
