VN-China enhance co-operation on border area development

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam and China have agreed to continue to work together on the framework of the Việt Nam-China Land Border Joint Committee, to effectively manage and protect their borders and border gates, in accordance with the three legal documents on the Việt Nam-China land border and related agreements.

The aim is cooperation and development in the border areas, building a peaceful, friendly and stable corridor between the two countries.

The messages were delivered at the meeting between representatives of the Việt Nam-China Land Border Joint Committee, which took place from May 28-29 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China.

The meeting was co-chaired by Nguyễn Thị Hường, Deputy Head of the National Border Committee under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Việt Nam, and Wang Jin Feng, Deputy Director of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

During the session, the two sides discussed and reached a broad consensus on plans for 2024, focusing on coordinating activities to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Việt Nam-China Land Border Treaty and the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Protocol on Border Demarcation and Marker Planting, the Agreement on Border Management, and the Agreement on Border Gates and Border Gate Management (the three legal documents on the Việt Nam-China land border).

The session reviewed the current status of the pilot operation, plans and roadmap towards the official operation of the Bản Giốc-Detian Waterfalls in 2024 and other related issues such as effectively implementing the three legal documents between the two sides.

In addition they continued to resolve border-related disputes and issues in accordance with relevant regulations and agreements, coordinated to promote the implementation of cooperation and development initiatives in the border area, discussed the approval of border-related projects and promoted the activities of Border Representatives and other related matters. — VNS
