FVH Film Night organised by Friends of Vietnam Heritage will present Nhà Tiên Tri (The Prophecy), a film directed by director Vương Đức, on Thursday, August 24.

Produced in 2015, The Prophecy is one of Đức’s most successful films. Đức is also director of the Việt Nam Feature Films Studio (VFS). He made this film in collaboration with screenwriter and poet, Hoàng Nhuận Cầm.

The film recounts President Hồ Chí Minh’s time at the Việt Bắc Resistance War Base in Northern Việt Nam during the revolutionary struggle against French colonists from 1947 to 1950.

Despite the context of war, the film does not use fierce fighting scenes, exploding landmines and so on to describe the horrors of the battlefield. Instead, the war unfolds with particularly humanistic and open perspectives.

With authentic footage of the mighty northwestern mountainous areas in Việt Nam and magnificent scenes filmed in Russia, President Hồ is well portrayed as a great patriotic revolutionary leader despite his simple appearance. It shows that despite it being a time of extreme hardship, including bombing, he had firm faith in the struggle, and accurately forecasted the time of liberation in Hà Nội.

The movie, with English subtitles, will be screened at 7.30pm. — VNS
