HCM CITY — A bowl of crab soup along with crab sticks, boiled quail eggs, century eggs and pork brains is a popular street food in HCM City.
Made from pig-bone broth, the soup has a natural flavour and sweetness enhanced by rice flour, whipped eggs and hijiki seaweed, an ingredient used in Chinese cuisine. Customers usually add black pepper, chili paste, spring onion, parsley, and a touch of soy sauce.
The soup stall at Đô Thành Residence in District 3 is one of the most popular soup stalls in HCM City. The stall is renowned for providing a large serving at a reasonable price of VNĐ10,000-35,000 (US$0.43-1.51), steadily attracting patrons for many years.
The stall is open on weekdays from 1pm to 5:30pm, with many customers being students from nearby schools and their parents. To avoid crowds, visiting the stall early is recommended. — VNS
