On the slopes of Lang Biang Mountain in the Central Highland province of Lâm Đồng, at a height of 2,100m above sea level, a forest of cherry blossoms is in full bloom.
Some trees are dozens of years old, with trunks wider than an adult’s embrace.
This kind of flower, which is a hydrid of plum and apricot, has five petals. The flowers come into full bloom within 20 days with bright pink colours.
At the foot of Lang Biang Mountain are fields of coffee, cotton and mulberry grown by the K’Ho ethnic group.
Local photographers discovered the forest of cherry blossoms last year, and the area has remained intact as not many people know of it.
From Đà Lạt City, take the road nearly 10km to Lạc Dương Town, then take a dangerous path by bike on the side of the mountain for 6-7km into the forest.
The trees are considered native to the region, and can also be found lining streets in Đà Lạt.
The season, which lasts between January and February, is also a peak tourism season in the city. — VNS
