HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese film Mỹ Nhân (The Beautiful Woman) by director Đinh Thái Thụy will open the APEC Film Week 2017, which runs this week in Hà Nội and Đà Nẵng in conjuction with APEC Việt Nam 2017.

The movie tells the life story of Nguyễn Phúc Tần (1620-87), the fourth ruler of the Nguyễn Lords, known as a good leader and a military genius, and his tragic love with Thị Thừa, a beautiful concubine disdained by his courtiers despite her pure soul.

The film week will take place on October 11-16 in Hà Nội and on October 12-16 in Đà Nẵng. The event aims to connect cultures and foster mutual understanding among APEC member economies through film with the ultimate goal of fostering an Asia-Pacific community of peace, stability, dynamic development and prosperity.

The film week is also intended to raise the profile of the APEC forum among locals while publicising the culture and people of Việt Nam to international friends.

Nine feature films and two documentaries from 11 APEC member economies, including Children of China from China, Blue Moon from Chinese Taipei, Mỹ Nhân from Việt Nam, I’m Still Here from Peru, Tsukiji Wonderland from Japan, My Paparotti from South Korea, Nokas from Indonesia, The Age of Pioneers from Russia, Jack of the Red Hearts from the United States, Violeta Went to Heaven from Chile and The Dressmaker from Australia will be screened in the week.

Following the APEC Year 2017 theme of “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future”, the event is held jointly by the National Committee on APEC 2017 and Việt Nam’s Ministry of Cutlure, Sports and Tourism.

The opening ceremony of the APEC Film Week 2017 will take place at 7pm on October 11 at the National Cinema Centre, 87 Láng Hạ Street, Hà Nội and on October 12 at Lê Độ Cinema, 46 Trần Phú Street, Đà Nẵng.
