Bạc Liêu to host Southern Khmer fest in November

The 7th Southern Khmer Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be held in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Bạc Liêu on 17-19 November.

BẠC LIÊU — The 7th Southern Khmer Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be held in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Bạc Liêu on November 17-19.

The festival, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Bạc Liêu Province People’s Committee, will feature many cultural activities including an exhibition on the traditions and culture of the Khmer ethnic minority community in the south, costume shows and arts performances.

It will also organise tours to historic heritage sites and beautiful landscapes in order to present the province’s tourism potential.

Several sports competitions including ghe Ngo (long boat) race, tug of war, soccer and volleyball will also be part of the festival.

Many Khmer groups from Tây Ninh, Bình Phước, Vĩnh Long, Trà Vinh, An Giang, Kiên Giang, Sóc Trăng, Cà Mau and Bạc Liêu provinces as well as the cities of Cần Thơ, HCM City will participate in the festival. 

The large-scale cultural event aims to foster solidarity, arts and cultural exchanges towards preserving and developing Southern Khmer ethnic group traditional culture.  VNS
