HCM CITY – A romantic movie featuring recurring love triangles is expected to open in cinemas nationwide on November 4.
4 Năm, 2 Chàng, Một Tình Yêu (Four Years, Two Men, One Love) is the first movie project of young director Luk Vân, who also wrote the film’s script.
Vân, a graduate of the directing department at the HCM City College of Theatre and Cinematography, has gained great popularity among netizens through short films on YouTube.
Đừng Nói, Hãy Yêu (Don’t Talk, Just Love) and Hà Nội, Em Yêu Anh (Hà Nội, I Love You) are some of the popular films.
Vân told the media that the way her short films were welcomed by audiences motivated her to make 4 Năm, 2 Chàng, Một Tình Yêu.”
The movie tells the story of two best friends, Tuấn and Thành, who have feelings for Quỳnh. Unfortunately, Quỳnh only realizes her love for Tuấn after he dies in an accident.
Four years after Tuấn’s death, Quỳnh and Thành, colleagues moving towards a relationship, meet a man who looks like Tuấn. Another love triangle is triggered.
Actress Midu, whose real name is Đặng Thị Mỹ Dung, plays Quỳnh.
“My character and I share similar characteristics. So I was inspired to act well,” said Midu, who studied fashion design at the HCM City University of Architecture and acting at the city’s Culture and Arts College.
The 27-year-old became popular among her peers after she won a beauty contest for teenagers in 2007.
Midu has played both major and minor roles in dozens of feature films including Thiên Mệnh Anh Hùng (Blood Letter) by Vietnamese-American director Victor Vũ and Mùa Hè Lạnh (Cold Summer) by Ngô Quang Hải.
Tuấn is played by Harry Lu, a Taiwanese born in Việt Nam. Lu earlier played the main role in director Nguyễn Quang Huy’s Thần Tượng (Idol), which won the 2014 Golden Kite award for Best Feature Film.-- VNS
