Việt Nam, France to kick off Đà Nẵng Fireworks Fest

ĐÀ NẴNG — Team Đà Nẵng-Việt Nam will perform with the defending champion, France’s Arteventia, in the curtain-raiser of the Đà Nẵng International Fireworks Festival 2024 (DIFF) on 8th June.

The festival’s organising committee said the two teams will kick off the only and largest fireworks festival in Việt Nam, including five nights of displays held from June 8 to July 13.

The host team, which is equipped with modern facilities at international standards, gained third place three times in the 2012, 2013 and 2015 editions.

The highest achievement of the team was the second place at the Honda Celebration of Light, Vancouver Canada in 2012.

Meanwhile, France’s Arteventia, who won the DIFF 2023, will show the power of the defending champion at the month-long 2024 festival.

Arteventia designs pyrotechnics and multidisciplinary shows in France and internationally, renewing the practice of grand fireworks performances through the years.

The team said it will focus on the textural quality of fireworks by choosing high-quality European products, and infusing fire and Latin rhythms under the theme ‘French Touch’ in the festival.

The second night's show will see Italy’s Martarello and the US' Rozzi fireworks teams perform on June 22.  

Martarello firework company, founded in 1921 and producing only hand-crafted fireworks, has won the DIFF twice, in 2017 and 2018, and took second place in 2023.

Rozzi’s innovation and dedication has helped the team put on multiple award-winning fireworks displays throughout the world, but it’s the first time the team competes in Đà Nẵng.

A newcomer team, Pyrogenie from Germany, will be paired with Poland’s Surex on the third night of DIDD on June 29.

Pyrogenie is a young and high-quality fireworks producer looking to bring new design ideas to the show.

The team said its performance will pay special attention to matching colours within in each level for a unique display at DIFF.

In the fourth night, June 29, China’s Liuyang Jingduan New-art Display Company, a combination of Jingduan Technology and New-art Pyrotechnics, one of the top display enterprises in China, will debut at the DIFF with their world-class professional fireworks displays, along with the Joho Pyro team from Finland.

The Chinese team took part in the Petrovsky Fire Festival, St. Petersburg, Russia in 2023, and Rostec International Fireworks Festival in Moscow, in 2022, but this is its first display at the Đà Nẵng event.

Joho Pyro, founded in 2004, won the Montreal International Fireworks Competition, Montreal Canada last year.

The team also claimed the first place in DIFF in 2019 and the People’s Choice Awards at DIFF 2023.

It collected first prizes at Zagreb International Fireworks, Warsaw International Fireworks Festival and Festival D’art Pyrotechnique in Cannes, France

France and Italy have been qualified for the final performance of the Đà Nẵng International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) after the event’s jury announced the last selection on June 25.

The festival’s organisers said the jury board had a careful selection and discussion for the two best performances among eight teams, and the decision was given to France and Italy.

Following the lot draw, Italy will perform first in the final night and France will follow, on the Hàn River on July 8.

Two best teams from four performance nights at DIFF 2024 will get final berths for winner prize on July 13.

In past Đà Nẵng Fireworks Festivals, Canada’s Davis Whysall took the top prize in 2008, while China’s Liuyang Dancing won in 2009. France’s Jacques Couturier Organisation won in 2010.

Parente Fireworks from Italy doubled in 2011 and 2012.

The US team Melrose Pyrotechnics took the top spot in 2013, while the Australian Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics bagged the title in 2015.

Italy’s Martarello won the title twice in 2017 and 2018 before Finland’s Joho Pyro Fireworks won the festival in 2019.

The festival had a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

Đà Nẵng is the only place in Việt Nam to host a fireworks festival since 2008.

The fireworks festival has helped Đà Nẵng build the ‘Fireworks Festival City’ brand and promote itself as a top destination in central Việt Nam and Asia.

Each festival attracts more than 1 million tourists, creating millions of dollars in revenue for the city’s tourism industry. VNS
