HÀ NỘI - Phạm Thùy Linh from Việt Nam National Academy of Music won Excellent Artist at the 26th Kyushu Music Concourse held in Kumamoto, Japan.

Linh won the jury panel's heart performing aria Den Teuren zu versohnen from opera Martha composed by Friedrich von Flotow.

"The moment of awarding was thrilling to me," Linh said. "The awards were given to everyone around me and only I was left on the stage. When the award was announced I felt a bit sad because I thought it was a consolation prize. I don't know Japanese."

"I have to thank my teachers Meritorious Artist Tân Nhàn and Lan Anh who encouraged me a lot to overcome my bad health condition."

Linh's award had not been given within three recent years at the concourse, according to artist Tân Nhàn.

Born in 2001 in the northern province of Nam Định, Linh is studying at the academy. She won the Golden Cup at vocal category at Asia Art Festival 2023 in Singapore.

She has released music videos Hoa Ban Đợi Người Thương, Gọi bạn, Dòng Sông Thầm Lặng and Tình Ca Tây Bắc.

Over 1,000 contestants from all over the world competed in the annual contest held from March 20-25. The categories include vocal and piano for people under 18 and people aged 18 to 25.

Linh will return to Japan performing at a concert honouring the concourse winners in May. - VNS
