SEOUL — The 9th session of the Việt Nam-Republic of Korea (RoK) Joint Committee on co-operation in energy, industry and trade took place in Seoul yesterday, aiming to concretise potential between the two countries.
The event was chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Trần Quốc Khánh and Vice Trade Minister at the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) Kim Yong-rae.
During the event, the two sides agreed to work together to improve Việt Nam’s production capacity, especially in processing, manufacturing, and support industry; and foster exports to the RoK and third countries.
They will work closely to launch a Việt Nam-RoK consultancy and technology solution centre (VITASK) this year, and build a database system on enterprises operating in the support industry, making it easier for Korean firms to learn about the Vietnamese market and enterprises.
The RoK will continue to support Vietnamese textile producers in improving their digital design capacity.
VITASK is expected to foster the transfer of support industrial technology to Vietnamese firms, and to support Việt Nam in designing, manufacturing and testing support industrial products.
For trade co-operation, the two sides pledged to take all necessary measures to bolster trade and investment ties to boost Việt Nam’s export of farm and aquatic products to the RoK, and the RoK’s investment in Việt Nam in producing and processing foods and technical infrastructure development.
The two sides agreed to strengthen co-operation in trade defence through continuing co-ordination in implementing a technical assistance programme to help Việt Nam develop and operate an early warning system of trade and defence, thus providing information for Vietnamese and Korean FDI enterprises in Việt Nam.
At the session, a memorandum of understanding between the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and Samsung Vietnam on training human resources in producing moulds was signed. — VNS
