HÀ NỘI — Nearly 30,000 cars were sold in October, marking an increase of 18 per cent compared with the same period last year, according to a report by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

The sales included nearly 22,300 passenger cars, about 7,100 commercial cars and 515 special purpose vehicles.

The October figures marked a breakthrough in imported vehicles with the sale of 11,300 units, up 46 per cent over the previous month, while domestically assembled cars rose 2 per cent to reach 17,599 units.

The top 10 best selling cars of the month included budget cars like the Toyota Wigo, priced from VNĐ345 million to VNĐ405 million, a good level for many middle-income people in Việt Nam. The Ford Ranger pickup truck returned to the top 10 after months of absence, while familiar names like the KIA Cerato and Mazda CX-5 disappeared from the list.
