HÀ NỘI — Developing offshore wind power is a key strategy of Petrovietnam in the future, said Chairman of the Member Council of Petrovietnam (PVN) Hoàng Quốc Vượng during a meeting with Jonathan Cole, General Director of Corio Generation Company on September 22.

At the meeting, Vượng said that besides developing the core fields, PVN was very interested in renewable energy projects, particularly offshore wind power projects.

“The development of offshore wind power is of great significance for Việt Nam as it can combine the goals of socio-economic growth, energy security, and industrialisation with low carbon emissions towards net zero emissions by 2050,” he said.

PVN and its member units, such as Vietsovpetro and Petrovietnam Technical Services Corp (PTSC), had experiences in participating in offshore wind power projects in the region and the world, Vượng said, adding that they had other advantages, for example, an excellent financial capacity, to implement offshore wind power projects.

PVN wanted to receive attention, support, and experience sharing from Corio Generation and believed that shortly, the two sides would have cooperation opportunities in developing offshore wind power projects in particular and renewable energy in general, Vượng said.

Speaking about Corio Generation Company, Johnathan said that the company now had one of the world’s largest offshore wind development portfolios, at over 15 GW, in both traditional and emerging renewable energy markets.

The company’s experts had considerable experience in developing offshore wind power projects from stages of construction, development, management and operation, he said, adding that Corio Generation was expanding the investment portfolio of Green Investment Group (The Australian Macquarie Financial Group) in Europe, Taiwan, Korea and Australia.
