A wide range of sophisticated hand-embroidered products are on display at Tanmy Design (TMD) as a part of celebrations for its 50th anniversary.

The celebrations and exhibition kicked off on November 26, with the participation of many Vietnamese officials, foreign diplomats, artists, businesspeople, and tourists.

The exhibition recalls the establishment and development of the brand, which represents traditional Vietnamese hand-embroidery, and its remarkable products.

The brand was established in 1969 and belongs to a family of which four generations have preserved the hand embroidery trade. The New York Times included a visit to TMD as among Hanoi’s must-see destinations.

Tanmy Design is the brand of the Tan My (New Beauty) Company. Starting out with embroidered bedding sets, table runners, pillow cases, handkerchiefs, and clothing, TMD has expanded to designing and producing lacquerware and jewelry.

It’s a popular shopping destination for many diplomats and distinguished guests visiting Hanoi, such as First Lady of Australia Jenny Morrison and former President of Chile Michelle Bachelet, according to Ms. Do Thanh Huong, daughter of Bach Thi Ngai, Founder of Tan My.

“During our 50 years, we have followed a course of reviving and promoting traditional hand-embroidery and lacquer,” she said. “It’s our mission to bring ‘new beauty’ and preserve traditional values.”

“On 1,000 sq m at 61 Hang Gai Street, we showcase sophisticated products featuring the talent of Vietnamese artisans. We want to build up Tanmy Design House as an artistic space combining traditional values and modern creations. It’s a place where we are proud to display Made-in-Vietnam products.”
