HÀ NỘI — Two Vietnamese players arrived in Kolkata for the India F2 Men’s Futures tennis tournament on March 5-11, their first event after the Lunar New Year festival.

National No 1 Lý Hoàng Nam, who ranks 473 in the world, is the only Vietnamese listed in the main round. He is the No 4 seed in the singles event.

His teammate, Trịnh Linh Giang, who ranks 1,506, will have to fight for an official berth from a qualification round.

They will remain in India for the F3 (March 12-18) and F4 (March 19-25) tournaments.

To prepare for this tournament, Nam had spent two months practising and competing locally.

The 21-year-old targets to be among the world’s top 300 tennis players this year.

He currently has 75 points and needs at least 87 more to be among the world’s top 300.

If he wins the tennis tournament, he will take home a car worth VNĐ2 billion.
