Three waterway projects mooted in Mekong Delta

The Vietnam Inland Waterway Administration has called on the Ministry of Transport to assess and invest in three waterway transport projects in the Mekong Delta under public-private-partnership mode.

MEKONG DELTA — The Vietnam Inland Waterway Administration has called on the Ministry of Transport to assess and invest in three waterway transport projects in the Mekong Delta under public-private-partnership mode.

The first is an upgrade of an 86km stretch of the Hàm Luông River to allow passage of vessels of up to 5000 tonnes.

The project also involves construction of a transhipment port and a 2000sq.m warehouse by 2020. In 2030 one more transhipment port is to be built and warehouse space doubled. Total cost is estimated around VNĐ 500 billion (US$21.9 million)

Meanwhile, the construction of the Mỹ Thuận ferry port in Tiền Giang Province and that of Tân Châu Port in An Giang Province is expected to cost VNĐ20 billion and VNĐ25 billion respectively. — VNS
