ĐÀ NẴNG — A Korean Coast Guard ship with 189 crew members arrived at the central city’s Tiên Sa Port yesterday to begin its three-day friendly visit to the city.

It’s the second time the ship, Badaro (3011 HAM), has docked at the port. The ship made its first visit in 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Việt Nam and the Republic of Korea.

The ship, led by lieutenant colonel Kim Dong-jin, head of the human resources department under the Korea Coast Guard Academy, will conduct a joint-exercise on sea rescue, maritime security and safety navigation with a Vietnamese coast guard force during the visit.

The Korean ship will also pay a visit and hold discussions with Việt Nam’s Coast Guard Zone 2 in Quảng Nam Province.

The visit also aims to boost friendship ties between the coast guard force of the two countries and to expand relationships with locals in central Việt Nam.

Việt Nam and Korea are active members of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) and the Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM), and have closely co-operated to improve the capacity of maritime law enforcement.

The central city of Đà Nẵng has built up friendship and co-operation ties with five cities in Korea, including Changwon, Deagu, Hwaseong, Gyeongsan and Seoul.

The city’s public security department and the police department in Daegu, Korea also inked a co-operation agreement in 2005.

Eight airlines of Việt Nam and Korea are operating direct flights from Korea to Đà Nẵng with 82 flights per week.
