HÀ NỘI — As asserted many times previously, Việt Nam has sufficient legal grounds and historical evidence proving its sovereignty over Trường Sa (Spratly) archipelago, stated Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lê Thị Thu Hằng.

She made the statement yesterday in response to reporters’ queries about Việt Nam’s response to the visit to Trường Sa’s Thị Tứ (Thitu) island by Philippine National Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana along with Philippine and foreign reporters on April 21.

Việt Nam asks parties concerned to respect her sovereignty over Trường Sa archipelago, fully and seriously implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, exercise restraint and refrain from actions that cause tension and further complicate the situation, and settle disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, she said. — VNS
