Next week: Why do you choose motorbikes over other means of transport despite the traffic chaos?

Anyone who has ever lived in Việt Nam, or looked at tourism information about the country, must have heard a million times how terrible and chaotic the traffic is. Yet it has become an increasingly familiar sight to spot an expat (or two) riding a motorbike, with or without helmet, in the middle of the crowded streets of Hà Nội and HCM City.

The question is: why do you pick motorbikes when there are other means of transportation, like cars, taxis or public buses, which are at least safer in some regards? Is it because riding motorbikes is a way to blend in with the locals, or just for convenience? Do you think that being able to ride a motorbike is an experience worth taking when travelling in Việt Nam?
