Online Friday 2018 officially kicked off today, with 5,000 products at promotional prices of zero đồng or with prices reduced by 80 to 90 per cent, according to event organiser Việt Nam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency (IDEA) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Black Friday, originating from the US, has become a popular shopping event in Việt Nam with retailers offering promotional sales to boost revenue while shoppers line up to find attractive discounts.

Online Friday 2018, which will be held on December 7th, is expected to see sales of VNĐ1.5 trillion (US$64 million) from two million orders, event organiser Việt Nam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency (IDEA) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

Online Friday 2018 started at midnight and lasts for 24 hours on Friday, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Big Day, the online summer shopping promotion of 2018, has started at 12 midnight and will last until 12 p.m. today, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said. 

The trend of non-cash payments and digitalisation in personal banking and the explosion of fintech firms in Việt Nam have placed banks ahead of many opportunities and challenges in fourth industrial revolution. Speaking to the media, Dr. Cấn Văn Lực, a financial expert, said that in the long term, co-operation between fintech companies and the commercial banking system needs to be tightened, VietnamPlus reports.

Online Friday 2017, the largest annual event for the e-commerce business and consumer communities in Việt Nam, kicked off on Thursday evening in HCM City.

Online Friday 2017, which is this Friday, is expected to achieve sales of VNĐ1.5 trillion (US$220 million), event organiser Việt Nam E-commerce and Information Technology Agency (Vecita) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
