HÀ NỘI — Trần Văn Thảo knocked out Artid Bamrungauea of Thailand in his tenth professional boxing fight in the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation’s super flyweight category, held yesterday in Bangkok, Thailand.
During his career, he has won all ten of his fights, with seven coming from knock-outs.
Bamrungauea tried to make use of home advantage with the support of over 1,000 home fans, but he could take Thảo’s powerful consecutive punches, which caused a cut to his eye. He lost by knock-out in the fourth round.
The win will help Thảo, currently ranked 91st in the world, to jump by at least six places in the rankings next month.
Thảo, nicknamed “The Trigger,” is the first Vietnamese holder of the WBC Asia title, which he won last November.
He will also receive the title of “Boxer of the Year 2017” during a ceremony in Bangkok on 30th April.
“I am proud to receive the award. It gives me immense happiness that my hard work has brought glory to Việt Nam,” Thảo said. “I will try harder to make it to world level and put Vietnamese boxing on the global map,” he added. — VNS
