Việt Nam strongest in ASEAN’s men’s sabre

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam dominated the Southeast Asian Fencing Federation Championships’ men’s individual sabre event in Singapore on September 4.

The Vietnamese athletes grabbed all the medals of this category with Olympian Nguyễn Thành An bagging the top position. His teammate Nguyễn Xuân Lợi came second, while Nguyễn Văn Quyết and Vũ Văn Hùng shared third place.

On the second day of the competition, Nguyễn Thị Luyến of Việt Nam won a silver medal in the women’s epee individual class.

Melbye Ann Karin of Singapore was first, while Lee Bernardette of the host nation and Raguin Harlene from the Philippines came third.

On Saturday, which was the first day of the event, Vietnamese fencers also overshadowed the competition in the women’s foil individual pool.

Rio Olympic participant Đỗ Thị Anh triumphed at the event, followed by Nguyễn Thị Hoài Thu and Phạm Thị Ngọc Luyến, respectively.

Earlier, Nguyễn Thị Lệ Dung finished second in the women’s individual sabre discipline, while her teammate Nguyễn Thị Loan bagged a bronze medal.

Nguyễn Phước Đến and Nguyễn Tiến Nhật were in third place in the men’s epee.

The athletes will participate in the team events at the OCBC Arena Hall 6 until September 6. — VNS
