HÀ NỘI – The Ministry of Education and Training has asked universities and educational establishments to review and increase the inspection of foreign language and computer training centres.

Under the directive of the ministry, universities and institutes are required to work closely with relevant ministries and agencies to inspect these facilities relating to the implementation of regulations on establishing, licensing, facility infrastructure and furniture conditions, teaching staff and other activities.

Violators will be strictly punished.

The ministry also urged them to publish lists of foreign language and computer training centres (including public, private and foreign-invested centres) with detailed information about their learning and teaching conditions, time of establishment, licence and location.

They will also have to publish lists of learners receiving foreign language and computer training certificates on their websites. The information must be regularly updated.

Universities and educational establishments will need to report on the inspection results to the ministry by May 25.

The move comes after a teacher at a foreign language training centre in Hà Nội was caught on camera insulting her student.

The centre was closed after a previous probe revealed that it had not obtained a licence from the municipal education and training department to operate as a foreign language training facility. The teacher was banned from teaching.

There are currently 513 licensed foreign language centres in Hà Nội, according to the municipal Department of Education and Training. – VNS
