QUẢNG BÌNH — Six seamen and two children on a fishing ship off the central province of Quảng Bình were rescued after a whirlwind destroyed their boat, provincial Border Guards said yesterday.

At 4am on Friday, a fishing ship captained by Nguyễn Xuân Nhật, 38, was on its way to Cửa Việt Port in the central province of Quảng Trị. When it was about 19 nautical miles off Quảng Trị Province, it was destroyed by a whirlwind, leaving all the people on the ship floating at sea.

At that time there were eight people on the ship including six seamen and two boys aged 11 and 16. The children were reportedly originally on their father’s boat at sea, but due to the dangerous weather, he asked his acquaintance Nhật to bring them back to shore.

By 9am on the same day, the Hải Thắng 18 Ship, owned by the Ngọc Anh Maritime Co Ltd, stumbled upon the victims. It brought them to Hòn La Port in Quảng Bình.

Provincial border guards received the victims, and assigned two medial workers to examine their health.

All of the people are in stable condition and have returned home. — VNS
