HÀ NỘI — The An Dương-Thanh Niên overpass in Tây Hồ District, one of eight major traffic projects aimed to ease congestion in Hà Nội, was opened to traffic on Thursday morning.
Construction on the overpass began last September with a total cost of VNĐ312 billion (US$13.4 million). It is 271m in length and 10m in width with seven spans that are 30, 45 and 60 metres long depending on the position.
It is expected to help reduce traffic congestion in Ba Đình and Tây Hồ Districts.
This was one of eight key projects designed to help reduce traffic congestion for the capital city and the overpass was expected to help ease traffic jams on the An Dương-Thanh Niên intersection, creating a rapid connection from the city centre to Nội Bài International Airport, according to Director of the Hà Nội Traffic Project Investment and Construction Management Board Phạm Hoàng Tuấn.
Construction of the flyover was completed after 10 months, coinciding with the celebration of the capital city’s 64th liberation day (October 10), said Tuấn.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Chung said the overpass would be significant to curbing traffic congestion in Ba Đình and Tây Hồ Districts and facilitate travel between Ba Đình, the city’s political hub, and Nội Bài International Airport. — VNS
