HCM CITY — More than 200 Vietnamese and foreign doctors compared notes on many areas of medicine at the Chợ Rẫy Science Congress held in HCM City on Thursday.

More than 190 topics on almost all areas of medicine were discussed.

As a top-tier hospital in the southern region, Chợ Rẫy Hospital is also one of the country’s major training and research centres, Nguyễn Trường Sơn, the hospital’s director, said.

The annual congress is part of the hospital’s research activities, he said.

Doctors at the hospital do research in more than 400 areas, with many of their works being published in international medical journals, he said.

The research focuses on patterns of common ailments in the country such as cancer, cardiac problems, organ transplant, and diabetes with the hope of optimising their diagnosis and treatment regimens, he said.

The development and application of advanced medical technologies are given priority in the research to improve the quality of treatment, he added.VNS
